Protesters check City Hall employees' bags

2009-09-30/10:57 The pensioners who protest in front of the City Hall stopped the head of the Social-Humanitarian and Interethnic Relations Division Nina Stratulat, who was going to work, and allowed her to enter the building only after checking her bag, Info-Prim Neo reports.

The protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with the fact that the public servants do not solve their problems, but “go to the market during working hours.”

Nina Stratulat could enter the City Hall only after the protesters convinced themselves she did not have products in the bag, but flags and placards prepared by officials of the Embassy of Germany in Chisinau for the events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The events will take place in the Great National Assembly Square on October 5 in the evening. The Chisinau City Hall is participating in the organization of the activities.

The pensioners protest against the rise in water and sewerage charges and bus and trolleybus fares. From October 1, a trip by trolleybus will cost 2 lei, while by bus – 3 lei. So far, the pensioners have traveled by public means of transport free of charge. The household consumers will pay 9.19 lei per cubic meter of water, as against 5.07 lei up to now.

The Chisinau Municipal Council will hold an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday, starting at 16.00, to discuss and approve the regulations concerning the payment of compensations for vulnerable groups of people.
